Cosmetic Dermatology FAQs

What are the Benefits of Cosmetic Dermatology?

Our skin is on display all the time. It is an indicator of age, health, and lifestyle. And, it is often exposed to ultraviolet light more than we’d like to admit. Cosmetic dermatology is an area of our practice in which we focus primarily on the appearance of the skin. The variety of treatments and services that comprise the field of cosmetic dermatology can accomplish several goals.

Cosmetic dermatology treatments can:

  • Reduce the appearance of lines and creases caused by aging
  • Promote healthy, glowing skin at every age
  • Correct the signs of sun damage
  • Help prevent premature aging
  • Enhance facial beauty without surgery

With a wide variety of services, our facility is equipped to help our patients address their cosmetic goals. Each treatment plan is customized to the individual and may include a one-time service or a series of treatments performed at appropriate intervals. Some services, like chemical peels and facials, are so gentle that they can be performed as often as every month. Others are designed to address more severe skin conditions in as few treatments as possible. When you visit Citron and Citron, you can feel comfortable knowing that you are in the driver’s seat and have the final say in the direction you go toward beauty.

Who are Ideal Candidates for Cosmetic Dermatology?

Adults of all ages are generally good candidates for cosmetic dermatology. There need not be a specific concern, such as sun spots or wrinkles, to explore our services. The skin is in a perpetual state of renewal and can benefit from assistance now and then.

Treatments such as customized facials, chemical peels, and microneedling are popular among young adults who are interested in preserving their youthful-looking skin. Microneedling, in particular, can be an excellent treatment to repeat periodically to continually stimulate new collagen production.

Adults who feel concerned about the appearance of aging skin are good candidates for collagen-stimulating treatments and may also be interested in services like Ultherapy, the only ultrasound-powered tissue-tightening device on the market today.

If you are thinking about seeing a cosmetic dermatologist, contact us. A conversation and examination of your skin will help you identify the various treatments that could benefit you.

Does insurance cover cosmetic dermatology?

No. Insurance companies generally only provide coverage for services deemed medically-necessary.

Is cosmetic dermatology safe?

Yes. Aesthetic services are performed by a licensed, experienced aesthetician. All devices involved in cosmetic procedures, such as Ultherapy and the SkinTyte facial, have been through rigorous clinical testing to gain FDA-clearance. All ingredients and injectables, as well, have been clinically tested for safety and efficacy prior to FDA-approval. Depending on the service, patients might experience mild, temporary side effects. Examples include redness, swelling, and bruising. Serious complications from cosmetic dermatology treatments are rare.

Is cosmetic dermatology painful?

All services have been developed with two goals: great results and comfort. That said, some cosmetic treatments can be slightly uncomfortable. When necessary, a topical numbing cream may be applied to the skin. However, most patients do not require this step. Treatment devices often have built-in mechanisms that support comfort, such as real-time feedback regarding tissue temperature. Treatments are also performed in a gentle, meticulous way that minimizes unnecessary disruption to the skin. For example, injectable treatments are conducted using a very fine needle that passes easily through the epidermis with little more than a pinch. Beauty shouldn’t be painful. We do all that we can to give each patient a pleasant experience.
