What is a neck lift?

A neck lift is a procedure that lifts and tightens a sagging neck or jawline. It is designed to remove excess skin flaps that hang from the front of the neck as a result of aging or extreme weight loss, and to give the neck a smoother, more youthful appearance.

How is a neck lift performed?

If excess skin is being removed, Dr. Barry S. Citron will make small incisions behind the ears to lift the remaining skin upwards and secure it in a new, discrete location. If the muscles in the neck are being removed or altered, or if liposuction is being performed, additional incisions are made underneath the chin.

What is recovery like following a neck lift?

Bruising and pain are common following this procedure, but typically resolve with medication. Patients may be asked to sleep with their head elevated to keep swelling to a minimum. Tightness in the neck may also appear, but all symptoms will eventually fade and patients can typically return to everyday activity within seven to 10 days.
